ABOUT US
Murugi Community Trust was established in 2024 and aims to relieve poverty, advance education and improve health in the Murugi community, Kenya
Murugi is an area in rural Kenya with high levels of poverty. The Dorset/Murugi Link was set up in 1999 by the late Martyn Hastings MBE (UK), Josie Hastings MBE and the late Joseph Komenjoe (Kenya). The initial intention was to provide an affordable Health Centre for the local people, but over the years the links between Dorset and Murugi have strengthened and many projects have been undertaken.
PROJECTS
The Charity has worked on numerous projects over the years, making a huge difference in the local community. Below are some of the key projects we've worked on.
SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMME
We have sponsors for more than 400 orphans and needy children, but we have many more who need help. If you choose to sponsor a child you will be linked with one child (or more if you like!) and will get annual updates, letters and photographs. Every penny of the money you give for sponsorship will go to assist your child, their school and their community.

BARAGU HEALTH CENTRE

We have built this facility from scratch over 23 years. It includes a full medical clinic for all, a well child and sick child unit, a maternity unit, full dental surgery and an outreach programme to the local schools. It also runs the HIV positive support group.
SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS
We support schools by building and renovating classrooms, as well as installing electricity, water, cooking facilities and even internet. We also provide books, IT equipment, furniture, washable sanitary wear for girls and support special educational needs units.

HIV POSITIVE SUPPORT GROUP

We fund regular HIV education and support meetings, as well as providing a monthly handout of food to those who are HIV positive, as the improved nutrition ensures that the ARV drugs are effective.
